We have added a new field in ACCOUNT. (Varchar)
But the global search does not work with this field.

I had a similar problem in Leads. I wanted to do a search by a custom field, what did not work with the normal way (filling in the search field with the term resulted in nothing found, when searching for a custom field). My approach then was to click on the right side on the top "Add Field", where I could choose a before determined field. After that, below the search field appears a new field (the chosen), where I could do my search with success.
