Layout List doesn't apply when you have a Children-to-Parent

I have noticed that the layout list (selection gets reset), so i have a client entity with a Children-to-Parent relation (children => accountant - contact) i have created a custom list layout from client entity for (salesChannel parent field), i have also checked the teh checkbox on account and contact so i can add the clients panel into the relationship (all is good). Only issues is that the saleschannel list layout gets reseted and never applied to the account / contact panel (instead i guess only smallList applied). Is this a bug or by design this feature doesn't work for children-to-parent relationship ? see screenshots attached.

IIRC it was not supposed to work for children relationship but it's displayed on the UI for some reason.

You should be able to set layout from the opposite entity.
