How to escape special chraters in print to pdf

Hi,
I have some Textbox fields, where I have a concatenated string with '\n' for line breaks. When I print such field to PDF it prints out <br> on those places.
Is there any escape code for that?

for text fields always use triple brackets {{{description}}} to escape html.

just for my information, never use wysiwyg field, how is printed in pdf ?
