Quite an old thread. I'm on MariaDB too so wouldn't know issue with MySQL.
Yes, minimum requirement is 5.7, if you try to install on lower version it get error. I think in EspoCRM v7, MySQL5.7 might get obsolete. I know PHP 5 was no longer supported after EspoCRM v6
Do you know what is the reason for v5.7 requirement? and WHY it wouldn't work with 5.6?
i'm on a shared server .. on OVH, which doesn't seem to be ready to be upgraded to 5.7, unfortunately (I won't change my hosting plan now)
