Show Name instead of Label (in the GUI Administration Area)

    Hello there,

I was wondering whether there was a setting to show names instead of labels in the GUI administration area? I searched for it but couldn't find anything, so I was wondering whether I might have overlooked something.

The reason why I'm asking: one and the same label can be the same mapping target of different names. Having the same label can be confusing, though, for instance when defining the layout for an entity or when defining logical relationships. Names, on the other hand, are guaranteed to be unique.

Label was invented specifically to be displayed instead of name. And in your case, it is advisable to specify a Label that is absolutely identical to your name.

Thanks for your quick answer! You are of course right, the distinction is very helpful for most contexts. As for filling in the forms as a non-technical user or when doing localization.

I think ultimately the "issue" I'm having results from the fact that the labels are also what you see on the edit and details pages (at least per default). So I think from time to time you have reason to reuse a label you used at other points of the same layout, like "unit price" or simply "name". Here it's great that name and label _can_ differ.

But when you put on your administrator hat this can lead to rather opaque naming (or better: labeling) schemes. For instance, I have different kinds of product sets, but in the frontend it's expected that they are both labeled "Products". So when I define visibility of other fields that depend on which products you choose, you cannot tell whether the "Product" label stands for product set A or product set B.

Currently I create new fields and leave the label as is. I do what I need to do. And at the end I use the Label Manager to put in the proper names. But I feel like there is a better workflow?
