Dynamic subcategory and location persistence based on main category selection

Hello all,

Apologies if this has already been asked, I poked around the forums but wasn't able to find what I was looking for.

I'd like to be able to select a Problem Category, depending on the selected category a drop down becomes available.

Currently, if the problem category "Hardware" is selected, a new Hardware subcategory shows up. The same goes for Software.

My issue is that I want the subcategory to show up in the same place.

Currently, I have two different entities that show up when the main Problem category is selected. In the layout manager I have each sub-category on the left and right, because I you can't "stack" items.

I don't want the location of the subcategory drop down to change. I want it to be dynamic based on primary category selection and stay in the same place.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,

We answered our own question using the following method:

I like how you use 1.0 1.1 1.2 etc

But I encountered one problem

I have 3 Category
Customer Request
Network
Facilities

and their Subcategories



but when I get back to update/change the category record
- the subcategory does not require me to fill it to its correct subcategory
-means-- I can save the category update even if its subcategory is Wrong...
