  • Suggestion : Project templates for project management

I really like the Project management extension, and we will probably implement it.

May I suggest to save an existing project as a template so that you can start a new one based on an existing one ?

The template would include [x] the groups, [x] tasks, [x] dependencies [x] tasks startdate/enddate (relative to project startdate)

This would be very helpful to create new Projects.

Our situation is like this :

We have 30-40 projects a year, of 5 different types.
Each type has a prescribed number of steps ( in Espo language: group) , with tasks that take a specific time (eg step 4 should always be max 2 months and should start 60 days after step 3)

Currently we use hand crafted workflows to generate tasks depending on the type of project. This works but is tedious, let alone that managing flexibility is a pain. So the project management extension would be a life saver.

Thank you for the nice work!

    Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

Templates (as a separate entity) were considered as a possible feature for the future. Though, it may turn out not as easy to implement as it may seem.

Cloning an existing Project directly to another Project is much easier to implement.

yes, probably cloning -> cleaning could be an option. You wouldnt want copied tasks to have the remarks or "done" status to have filled in I guess.

We have the same requirement. It seems at the moment the duplicate project option does not duplicate the groups or tasks within the project.

We too would find either cloning or templating to be very useful. If you have multiple similar complex projects this would avoid having to set them up manually. But great first release - thank you

The Project cloning feature is added in v1.1.0.

A Project can be cloned along with its Groups and Tasks. Optionally, it's possible to also include:
            • Members
            • Task Owners
            • Task Assignees
            • Attachments

The Date Start should be set in the source Project. When cloning, the user needs to set a new Date Start for the Project. Dates of cloned Tasks will be calculated based on the difference between the source and cloned Projects.

To be able to clone a Project, the user should have create access to the Project scope and edit access to the source Project. To clone a Project, open the detail view and click the Clone action from the dropdown next to the Edit button.

If you clone a Project and then decide to remove it, it won't be possible until you remove all related Tasks.
