Auto Convert Lead to Contact

Hi,

In my setup, many leads that come in can automatically be converted to contacts.

Using either a formula or Advanced Pack workflows, I'd like to examine the lead, based on certain conditions, convert the lead to a contact, like the convert button currently works.

I have some experience working with formulas and workflows, so determining if the lead should be auto-converted isn't the issue.

The issue is how to initiate the conversion process.

I believe I could use record\create in a formula and update the values from the lead to the contact, but this seems a bit clunky if a convert function is available.

Well, using a formula wasn't as ugly as I thought it was going to be, and functional is beautiful.

This is an old thread but any chance you could detail what you did for the formula, from one trekkie to another ?
I'd like to set up a similar trigger that convert a prospect into an opportunity but I'm having a hard time with copying the fields and linking the items post-creation.
