Convert Lead To Opportunity - Name Not Carried Forward

When I convert a Lead to Opportunity the 'Name' is not carried forward ...

OK, I worked out that the I needed to create fields in the Opportunity form for title, firstName, lastName to mirror those in the leads form for the information to be carried across .... It seems odd that it isn't like that by default...
