How to send email to contact as a portal user?

Hi all,
I am trying to figure out how portal user can send email to specific contact from the CRM. What I am looking for is functionality similar to upper level CRM users - in Emails tab there is a "Compose" button that opens compose form and "To" field can be populated using auto-fill feature. Or, if on the Contact details screen, clicking on "..." in "Activities" section's header gives an option to compose an email. What I an trying to figure out how to enable this for portal users when they login into Portal of the CRM. I've added "Emails" tab into navigation for Portal but there is no compose button there. Please advise. Thanks.

Is this updated in new releases? Sending Emails for Portal users is a kind of required feature.
