Searching "Starts With" vs "Contains"

We added Account Name to our Leads List and when we do a regular search from the main search bar the Account Name is only found if it "Starts with" our search instead of "Contains" our search.

For example, if we have a lead with an account name called "Thomas Tanks" it would find the lead if we searched for Thomas but not Tanks. Is this expected and is there any way to have the Account Name be a "Contains" search here?

you can use %
