Convert Entities to Other Entities Like Leads to Accounts?

Is it possible to create a new entity that can have a "convert" button like leads do, in order to convert it over to another type of custom entity? For example, I want a stage before "lead," like "cold lead" that can be converted into a "lead," then the lead can be converted into an account. Is this possible? Thanks!

No, you need to develop such functionality.

As a workaround, you can create a Workflow or BPM (can be started manually) that will create Lead with populating all desired fields.
