Contact/Lead process.

Hi,
I am using the basic version and I don't understand the Contact/Lead process.

I thought:
- I create a Lead with a name and adress
- I change the status to converted => It creates a new Contact with the same name and adress.
But it seems it doesn't work like that.
Can somebody explains the right way to do it?

Hello,
use Convert button on the Lead detail view

I use the convert button but it doesn't create a contact.It allows me to link to an existing contact (or a new where I have to refill every field) or account or opportunity.
I thought I would be able to create a contact directly with the information of the lead when I convert to a contact.

I found my error.
I was converting by changing the status field and not the Convert button on the top.
