Unable to add/change title in "Contacts"

Whenever I add a title to a new or existing contact ESPO seems to allow me to save the change, but when I move away from that page (like to a different contact) and return to that page, I can see the newly added title disappear. Result: none of my contacts have a title. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

Title meas the title for account or the name field? Did you modify the layout for contact?
If yes, attach a detail view layout custom/Espo/Custom/Resources/layouts/Contact/detail.json

Yep, title as a name field within the entity "contacts". I did modify the lay-out because I added more fields.

Title field only shows the title in primary account. If you want to set the title for accounts, do this in accounts fiels
