converting contacts to leads

I just got started with espocrm and so this is likely a silly question: It's my understanding that potential clients should be initially added as leads, which will then allow you to do the conversion to contacts, etc. But I initially added a number of them as contacts. Coming from the assumption that if I simply add them again as leads, they won't be connected, is that right? If that is the case, is there a way to do the backward conversion, or do I have to export contact, import again as leads, and then do the conversion to ensure leads and contacts are connected.

You don't need them as Leads if you have them already as Contacts. If it's B2B case you also need Account.
