Optimalisation(recompression) of uploaded images

I would really appreciate some images optimalisation imediatelly after uploading.
For example recompression (for saving lot of disk space). Ideally with some parameters (max resolution, quality of jpg compression)
Reason: photos from mobile phones have really big size compare to optimized images with similar quality (like sent trough Viber).

As an option that might be ok, but I would not agree to have this generally. My apps essential feature is dealing with images. It would be a real dealbreaker for me, if the images I upload would be automatically treated. I need them exactly as I upload them.
