A chat is not planned. It's possible to send private messages via stream.

Is there a way to maybe implement some sort of 3rd party messenger that you know of?

To get most of the Stream as a massager I believe highly helpful would be:
1) Implicit mentioning: if a User was mentioned by a “@” in a message, this message has to be unconditionally (regardless of any permissions) put in that User’s stream.
2) Search in all streams (according to access rights, of course)
3) Quick button “reply” (or “quote”, doesn't matter - which is implementable easier)
4) labels (or statuses) for stream records (“seen”, “done”, “urgent” or alike).
