  • SMTP Delivery Status Notifications or "Read Receipts" for CRM Emails

In the IETF's RFC #3464 there defines the formatted extension of the SMTP service with Message Disposition Notifications, otherwise known as "Delivery Status Notifications" or simply "Read Receipts". Prior to our migration to EspoCRM our organization's Inside Sales team was a little too used to this feature from our prior system Zoho CRM. I've been asked on numerous occasions when the team will have this feature again.

Is there a way to bundle in with the Email Service's SMTP parameters going to the emailAccount some functionality that returns details back to the user (whether by maybe notification or inbound email) if an outbound email to a contact record which was delivered using EspoCRM was opened by the recipient? I know this probably to some degree depends on the recipient SMTP server to service such functionality. However in our experience it certainly seemed common enough to be found helpful by the Sales team.

One of our Sales Reps mentioned this feature is particularly useful when sending correspondence with an attachment, (quotes primarily) as we can then see that the recipient has received the message. There have been times when they've, for whatever reason, not received our pricing and the Rep is left wondering if they ever received/opened the email or not.
