Update field with data from other application (through API call)

Is it possible to update a field with data from another application, noted that they provide an api?

In my case i would like to show the amount spend by a certain client or project by linking it up to ActiveCollab (we use it for time and expense tracking), but the possibilities are much bigger of course. Browsing through the documentation i presumed it might be possible with Hooks, through scripts in a workflow or a scheduled job perhaps?

Hi,
how do you want to synchronize your data. Hooks is run only when entity is modified in system (you change some data and save, before or after you can make some fix or load some data. But only if you save/remove/link entity). The same with Workflow with types after record created and after record saved.
But you can create a job and update your entities here

Thank you for your speedy reply. Based on your reply i would say a scheduled job would be better, because then i can synchronize it ones during the night?

You can do it even each minute. But you can also perform full synchronization once at night (if you don't need to do it very often). It's the best way.
