Field Type Link

I see that for entity to entity. I am trying to create a field like you did that is a link field. From start to finish what steps do I need to take to do this? What kind of field do I start with and how do I create the link? I tried a varchar and didn't know where to go with it. Great examples are your fields "brand" and "category" in the opportunities entity. Thanks!

No, It represents belongsTo relationsip (many-to-one).

Could someone please explain to me why there is a field type used consistently called "link" but it is not available as a field type that can be chosen among entity fields like enum, array, text, varchar etc?
