To give a quick update, I was able to fix the problem for myself by adding the following paths to $skipPathRegexList in BeforeUpgrade.php:

If I uninstall TCPDF extenion and try to upgrade, I get "Error: Class "TCPDF" not found".

They only thing I've foud related to 'lib/byte_safe_strings.php' is a library called paragonie/random_compat.

Does espocrm use that?
