Hey, I'm new here, so excuse my wading in with business suggestions - but I hope you'll find I'm experienced enough with these things.
I found EspoCRM through Cloudron, and I'm active in the Cloudron forum, also promoting how happy I am with EspoCRM there:
Their forum is using NodeBB, and it really is fast, slick and modern:

If I might recommend if you'd ever consider moving on from vBulletin, then NodeBB has my recommendation and I feel many others that use it.
Plus, everything is super easy to self-host with Cloudron, including NodeBB, and I'm sure the community there would be happy to cross-pollinate ideas and expertise here too.
