Batch import of lead photos

I have a large number of photos in jpeg format together with the id of the corresponding lead record. I am looking for advice on whether it is possible to do a bulk import of those data.
I realize that there is more to it than putting the photo files with the appropriate names in the data/upload directory. Is there any functionality that allows a batch import?

Haven't explore the import function yet but I assume there is no quick way to do it via the GUI/menu. You would like to learn to use use script and database manipulation, a pay services from the complexity requirement. Otherwise manually upload one by one like what I am doing.

Perhaps a workflow function may be able to do it, but that a paid feature which I haven't invested in yet.
