Prevent Email Template Subject from Overwriting Subject When Replying

Our team relies heavily on Email Templates, which often include a predefined subject — essential when composing a new email. However, when replying to an existing email, we do not want the template's subject to overwrite the original subject line.

    🧩 Feature request:

We’d like to propose adding an option to Email Templates:
"Do not overwrite subject when replying to an email"

💡 Why this would be helpful:
    • Avoid duplicating templates
One workaround is to maintain two versions of each template — one with a subject for new emails, and one without for replies. While this is technically possible on both desktop and mobile, it quickly becomes unmanageable when dealing with a large number of templates. It also makes selecting the right version harder and more error-prone.
    • Reduce friction from manual copy-pasting
Another workaround is to manually copy the original subject, apply the template (which overwrites it), and then paste the subject back. This method works on both PC and smartphone, but it's an unnecessary and repetitive step that slows down the workflow — especially when replying quickly or frequently.
    • Preserve thread continuity
Keeping the subject intact ensures proper email threading in email clients like Gmail or Outlook. It also signals to the recipient that the message is a direct reply, not a new conversation or marketing email — which helps reduce confusion and increases trust.

Adding a simple checkbox to control subject overwriting behavior in templates would make a big difference for teams handling lots of replies, while keeping the system clean and intuitive.

Thank you for considering this improvement!
