      Cube,

Do you think that Quotes should not be a part of CRM? What is your thoughts about that? Every popular CRM has this feature out of the box. Thanks.

Tricky one. It's the slippery slope into trying to do accounting - both Dolibarr and vTiger have fallen for it. IMHO neither does accounting well enough and they have put vast effort into it.

IMHO if Dolibarr had not been so daft as to try to be 'all things to all men' it could be King of FOSS CRM by now. V clever Frenchman behind it, disciplined coding, great FOSS structure and idea - the Dolishop is a ludicrous name, but a brilliant idea - others have copied and none has done it so well. Doli has real staying power - one of the oldest, but IMHO made a v bad choice in trying to be an accounting tool. Probably they listened to their customers - should've taken a leaf out of Steve Jobs book and ignored customers opinions

There are LOADS and LOADS of FOSS (fake-FOSS) accounting softwares out there - I have a list of about 50+.
My list of reasonable FOSS CRM's is short and D and vT are heading into the wilderness IMO.

I can see the attraction of quotes - it could SO easily be part of a CRM - perhaps a module is the answer.
IMO quotes fit better into an accounting/erp package : quote -> sales order -> invoice ... and that's where you are headed if you do quotes and not:
one-click telephoning (start with UK VoIP please)
one-page all info on a customer
SFA and CRM - find customers and the look after them (keep them)
Social media on steroids (civiCRM like)
        calendar integration via OwnCloud
mass emailing or link with phpList (better idea)
        KPI's fine tuning / alerts
        salesman incentives etc

This is a sales tool, not an accounting tool, right?

Don't lose sight of what/who you are. You are trying to replace 3 or 4 boxes of contact cards on a desk - a mess. Nobody FOSS is doing it well IMHO = opportunity.
Coders have to give the salesmen what they want/need not what coders THINK that they want.

If you really want quotes, you should hook up with an accounting / ERP package like PhreeBooks. Why reinvent the wheel.
Or blueERP - almost dead and could be revived/renamed/absorbed/forked.

I don't like the idea to store and manage inventory in CRM. But the ability to generate a quote and instantly send it to the customer seems to be significant for sales.

IMO this should be done in an ERP as you may need to send a sample(s) also and this will effect stock levela and timely reordering.

Also one-click conversion into an order is next.

            Point 1 - don't agree
            Point 2 - not a strong point - a bit of a no-brainer
            Point 3 - agree
