Lead Converted to Contact, but why keep a copy of lead?

Hi,

I have a question about convert lead to contact, what are the reasons behind it that we keep a copy of lead (including its stream) after it has been converted to a contact. Any use cases or business reasons?

Since the two are actually representing the same person, why don't we merge the streams attached to it?

There is indeed no reason why leads should be kept since it creates confusion. Not sure about the stream since we do not use it but as far as I know all relations are carried over to the contact when converting. You could add the deletion in the code easily or you simply delete all leads with the status converted on a regular basis.
